Super Falcons Depart For AWC Tonight

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are expected to depart the Nigerian shores on tonight (wednesday, October 8), at 10pm, for Windhoek, Namibia, venue of the 2014 African Women Championship, Completesportsnigeria.com understands.


The Falcons were billed to be in Lagos to connect a flight to South Africa earlier on Wednesday afternoon, where they will then complete the journey to Namibia.

The six-time African champions will begin their campaign in this year’s competition which serves as qualifiers to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a game on Saturday against Cote d’Ivoire.


Edwin Okon’s team will play their second game of the AWC on Tuesday against Zambia and then round off their Group A games on Friday, 17 October against hosts, Namibia.

All the Super Falcons’ group games come up at 7pm Nigerian time.

Three teams from the four semi-finalists at the AWC will represent African at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

Equatorial Guinea are the current African champions, but they were eliminated during the qualifiers by Algeria, so will not defend the crown they won from Nigeria in 2012.
