By Hanifat Mustapha: Nigeria’s Super Falcons have been placed in Group B in the preliminary round of the maiden edition of the Women’s WAFU Cup of Nations, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.
Cote d’Ivoire will host the competition from 14 February to 24 February, 2018.
The draw held in Abidjan on Tuesday put African champions Super Falcons in Pool B alongside Benin Republic, Senegal and Togo.
Hosts Cote d’Ivoire are in Pool A with Niger, Burkina Faso and Ghana.
Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana will play the opening match on 14 February in Abidjan.
Three stadiums will host the competition: the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium, the Robert Champroux Stadium and the Parc des Sports.
The opening match and the final are scheduled for the Félix Houphouët-Boigny stadium.
Two teams from each group in the premliminary stage will qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.
Nigeria are still in search of a coach for the Super Falcons and they are expected to use the competition to prepare for the 2018 African Women’s Cup of Nations qualifiers scheduled for May 2018.
