Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo is excited to have scored a brace for Finnish club HJK Helsinki who beat FC Inter 3-1 on Monday to remain top of the league with 20 points from nine games.
The 31-year-old left back scored in the 72nd minute to give his team a 2-1 lead and completed his brace eight minutes later to seal the victory and take his goal tally to three this season.
He was also voted the man of the match after the game for his performance.
He told Completesportsnigeria.com: “I’m so happy to score two goals for the team to maintain our spot at the top of the log.
“The win was a reward for the massive efforts we put into the game and I’m satisfied. I like to score goals and I am glad that I was able to make the team today two goals.
“It was a difficult game, Inter defended well but we had to speed up the tempo and keep the ball in motion and it finally paid off.
Taiwo also had good word for Nnamdi Oduamadi whom he says has brought a different dimension to the team’s attack this season.
“Odu is a great player and he is confident running at defenders, something which is different from how we now play,” he said.
Taiwo was played down his team’s early chances of winning the Finnish title.
He said: “We will take each game at a time and see where it goes.”
Taiwo who began his career with Lobi Stars before donning the colours of Olympique Marseille, AC Milan, QPR, Dynamo Kiev, and Bursaspor has played all 12 games for HJK Helsinki this term.
