Taribo: Omeruo, Etebo, Musa Super Eagles Best Players In Russia

By Johnny Edward:

Former Super Eagles defender Taribo West has picked Kenneth Omeruo as his standout defender in the Nigeria squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

West, who featured for Nigeria in two World Cups inb1998 in France and 2002 in Korea/Japan, stated that Omeruo’s inclusion in the defence after the 2-0 loss to Croatia strengthened the defence.

Omeruo played against Iceland and Argentina and was impressive.

“For me Leon Balogun and Troost- Ekong did well but the inclusion of Kenneth Omeruo ensured we were not caught out in set-pieces and dead balls,” West told CSN in Lagos on Sunday.

“He is gaining more experience and I hope the see him get even better after the ups and downs.

“I think, going forward, we should play to the strengths of our players than just mere tactics. He (Omeruo) did well to force his way back after all the condemnation.

“I just hope he and the rest step up and get us another Africa Cup of Nations title.”

The former Inter Milan and AC Milan defender also reserved praise for Ahmed Musa and Oghenekaro Etebo.

“Musa also too was the best player in attack scoring twice in three games. Not many gave him a chance but he proved himself scoring twice just as Etebo also did well in the middle. He thrived playing along with Mikel. I hope they keep this form and build on it.”

  • That is a spirit of a good sportmanship, not like other ex-players(who did not achieve any time during their playing days) who will come out to blame the coach and the players, pointing at who to sack and who should not be in the team!the bois give the bestand play good football .
time to focus on AFCON qualifies and the main AFCON proper.
    WEST am with you

  • No matter how we look at it, I still believe Rohr should be blamed for the questionable inclusion of Ighalo. If there is no room for certain criticism we will never achieve anything meaningful. Since when had almost
everyone been clamoring for the same formation that worked for us against Iceland and Argentina and the old man stuck to his gun until it was late? Okocha’s analysis of the team was just spot on. Please let us stop deceiving ourselves in Nigeria all in the name of not blaming anyone. No one can take anything away from Rohr with regard to his achievement but he definitely goofed in Russia.

Thank you Mr Debo!, Rohr showed Nigeria is NOT his country… if he were managing Germany, he would never have played a misfiring striker like Igalo against Argentina. Rohr has
tried… but he goofed in Russia!

  • Thank u @Debo and @Alexander for u spoke wel, i still dont understand why the coach played ighalo.
I still dont understand why iwobi didnt start or come early into the game.

During friendly matches but pple said he knw wat he is doing. he wil use the right players and at their rightful position and the right formation.
The way siasia pick etebo from npfl home base team. If it was gernot rohr he wont do it and wil made us to lose player like etebo.

why didnt he try lokosa at attack,

Before the world many fans raised objection to the inclusion of Ighalo in our squad because of his poor goal scoring record for S,E. the Coach refused to listen and the results are they for all to see. going forward the Coach should comb the nooks and crannies of the world in search of a striker in the mould of Samuel Eto,Yekimi and Agawonder of Cameron. The league does not matter but the goal conversion rate and technique. Nigeria use to have Agahowa and Yekimi who were not playing in the top five leagues in the world but have very high Goal conversion rate.

We shall never achieve anything with Ighalo but it seems he is favoured by the gaffer.
Ighalo has not achieved anything with Nigeria starting from his youth days. The coach would have brought Iwobi in rather than Ighalo. He was guilty of adopting a formation against Croatia when it’s evident in the friendlies that the team is better of playing 3.5.2 formation.Eagles wouldn’t have lost against the Croats had he played to the strength of the team.
    Rohr failed in Russia.
Apparently a coach who doesn’t know his best performing players and formation going to the world cup is bound to fail.Well let’s hope he has learnt from this disappointment as we project a new and stronger team going forward

What everyone is forgetting is yes mistakes where made but the fact remains that at present Nigeria doesn’t have the talent of 1994z there are a few good players , but there is no Yekini no findinGeorege And certainly no Kanu or Okocha. This is a young team but they came up against better players and countries who are highly ranked and hiihjly experienced. Prior to the World Cup how many condemned the the goalie. How many so called experts said he would be the downfall of the team. Yet he played his part . Fellow Nigerians . It’s tine to allow the coach to do his job . Let s wait to see after all these years Nigeria gets to the next African Cup of Nations and then what they do there. That will be the coaches real test . Then if they get as far as the semi finals/ finals it will be a mandate to keep him for the next World Cup.

@Mr Francis, people have said the truth on Ofhalom and Iwobi,be comfortable with that. It doesn’t mean the coach is bad.A good coach can good and truth is,he goofed in Russia on those glaring matters.
Like Taribo West as said, don’t only play tactics(which is a good thing) also play to the strength of ur players.
We grow by learning from mistakes pls. No sentiments, let truth flow.

    Edited 1st msg:
@Mr Francis,we know it’s a young side much like England who incidentally play a similar formation but with a different application.Ofcourse,u know Coach Southgate won’t allow fatigue to undermine his team,as it happened to our midfield against d Argies. Southgate is ready to change even Henderson,if he is tired.A coach must have such confidence in his bench to be elite.
Now, people have said the truth on Ighalo and Iwobi,be comfortable with that pls.
It doesn’t mean the coach is bad.A good coach can goof and truth is,he goofed in Russia on those glaring matters.Nobody said the coach be sacked here.
Like Mr Taribo West said, don’t only play tactics(which is a good thing) also play to the strengths of ur players. That is very instructive going forward.
We grow by learning from mistakes pls. No sentiments, let truth flow.

  • Dis coach wil stil be mistake out of Afcon let watch and see.

    1) he is not uptimistic to give the boys motivation, always fear nd praise opponents.

2)never use homebase player. 4instance siasia and other coaches uses homebase best players. Etebo was from npfl nd others.

    3) giving players false position. 4instance iheanacho was good (ATT MIDF)always score from there, ever since he was convert to top9 by rohr, de boy to have problem every position. also advice egypt coach to play salah as top9.

4)he dont know how to find hidden talents. nd dont learn from a mistakes. nd lack clue for substitution.

There are more error but i have to stop here. Dis former Gabon coach is not what we need.

Why, why and why do we like deceiving ourselves in this country? Some people still not seeing what Mr. Rohr did wrong? The Nigeria world cup scenario is called “bad market” yes, bad market indeed!!! What a painful exit???

Mark my words, if NFF allowed this coach to carry on, Nigeria should say goodbye to our football. This Oga Rohr can not taking us to the promised land. “The earlier we know this the better”.

If I may ask, what is the achievement of this coach called Mr. Rohr at this year world cup?

Lastly, please don’t blame Mr. Ighalo because if the coach Rohr did not introduced him into the field of play, there is no way he would have played against Argentina. So, the match with Argentina still fresh in our memories and Mr. Ighalo would be forever remembered for his missed chances Argentina and would never represents Nigeria in any tournamen. Great nation with bad and wicked people.

Hmm, only God can help us in this country. I call on you almighty God, have mercy on us because Nigeria is not settled in all ramifications. Ameen!!! God bless Nigeria!!!

    • mikee 3 years ago

Thank you they are afraid to blame Rohr because he is a white man, if it was a Nigerian coach that made all these blunders the press and Nff would have sacked him already. This Rohr coach is a fraud, he is not even qualified to coach Eyimba football club. He should be fired immediately
