Everton boss Ronald Koeman has revealed that the Toffees could be without three players ahead of Sunday’s Premier league trip to Stamford Bridge to face champions Chelsea.
“We will have to wait on Idrissa Gueye. Davy Klaassen is out. Sandro Ramirez is doubtful,” Koeman said at his press conference on Friday.
Koeman praised Wayne Rooney after the former Manchester United retired from international football.
“We’re still looking to bring a striker in. We need more competition. We have a lot of tough fixtures coming up,” the Dutchman added.
“His (Rooney’s) decision to retire is one I respect. He’s important both on and off the pitch.”
The 1988 and 1992 UEFA Champions League winner with PSV and Barcelona respectively described Everton’s Europa League Group E as very difficult.
“It’s a strong group. All in a good part of Europe. Easy to travel. Tough but it’s tough for everybody.”
And on new signing Gylfi Sigurdsson’s superb free-kick which secured a 1-1 draw for Everton against Hajduk Split in the Europa League play-offs on Thursday, Koeman said: “Incredible.
