Germany's top ranked table tennis, player Timo Boll who lost a 4th round Men's singles match to rising star Aruna Quadri has hailed the Nigerian for his heroics, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Quadri, not only defied the form books by sending the former world champion and number 13 ranked tennis legend out of the competition but went on to grab a place in the record books as the first African to qualify for the quarter finals in the Olympic games.
Boll was shocked by Quadri's play after the loss and admits.
"He surprised a lot of people, I knew he was good coming into the match. I just have to say well played," Boll who had the honour of carrying Germany flag at the opening ceremony told Completesportsnigeria.com here in Rio.
"His whole game was different so it took me a while to figure it out. Once I was 3-0 down, I started getting more into it but it was too late."
Quadri faces world champion Ma Long of China who survived a scare before edging South Korea's Jeong Youngsik in his 4th round matchtonight in the first quarter-final match at 21:30 local time (1:30am Nig. ) at the Riocentro Pavilion 1.
