Jose Mourinho believes Manchester United’s title chances now rest on whether their rivals are hit by Financial Fair Play rules. The Red Devils are 18 points behind rivals Manchester City and the club’s fans have already given up on a potential title charge.
At present, the gulf in class between the two teams is noticeable but Mourinho believes the tide could change if City are found guilty of breaching FFP rules.
City are under investigation after alleged leaked documents claimed last month the club had inflated their sponsorship income in order to comply with UEFA’s break-even rules.
City may be banned from the Champions League if they are found guilty and Mourinho insists his team may be able to catch up if they are punished.
When asked if his team could challenge, he told reporters: “I don’t know. “It depends also the way of our evolution but also the evolution of others, the ones that are above us.
If they keep going in the same direction and if their ambition, investment, everything, continues that’s one thing. “Another thing is if they stop or if Financial Fair Play makes them stop. Then we can close the gap a little bit better.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
