Toni Nadal says he doubts Roger Federer still has the game to win another Grand Slam in 2019. The Swiss star has spent the last two years largely proving his doubters wrong but seems to be running out of steam as after winning January’s Australian Open, the 37-year-old failed to make the semi-finals at any of the other Slams.
Federer again chose to skip the French Open but lost to Kevin Anderson in the last eight at Wimbledon, despite going two sets up, while he succumbed in four sets to John Millman in the fourth round at Flushing Meadows.
After losing in the semi-finals to Alexander Zverev after a mixed run of performances at the ATP Finals, fresh questions are being posed regarding his ability to compete at the very top.
The veteran has remained coy on his retirement plans but Nadal believes his chances of adding to his tally of 20 Grand Slams are dwindling.
‘Uncle Toni’, as he is known from his time coaching his nephew and Federer’s biggest rival, Rafael Nadal, says he does not expect more major success for the great man although he admits Federer has proved him wrong before.
“I’m not sure what we can expect from 2019 but it seems difficult for us to see Federer lifting another Grand Slam trophy,” Nadal wrote in his weekly column for El Pais. “I have to confess, though, that I have said this on other occasions about him and he has repeatedly surprised me.”Fastest Paying Betting Site in Nigeria: Grab your 140% First Time Deposit Bonus Now — www.Sportybet.Com Copyright © 2021 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
