Lucas Torreira has opened up on his move away from Sampdoria and says he agreed to join Arsenal before the start of the World Cup. Uruguay international Torreira made the switch to the Premier League side on July 10 for a fee believed to be worth around £27million and he has settled into London life nicely.
The 22-year-old is yet to start a match but he has come on as a substitute in every game, providing the assist for the winning goal in the 3-2 victory at Cardiff City last time out.
Torreira has now given an insight into how his move to the Gunners first came about after recent comments from his agent warned against the midfielder going to England.
“Well, everything about Arsenal came out before the World Cup,” he said. “When I was preparing to go to the World Cup with my country, with Uruguay, I received a call from the boss.
“I had already had a talk with my agent who told me about the idea of Arsenal and I was very happy because when I was in Italy, I never imagined being able to come to the Premier League.
“There was rumours of many Italian teams, this ended up surprising me honestly, and when I received the call from the boss I was very happy. When I went to the World Cup, I knew that whatever happened I was going to sign for Arsenal.
“So I was with a calm head, free, and luckily I had a great World Cup with my country.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
