Boss Franz Tost is happy for Toro Rosso to be the “guinea pig” in order to help sister team Red Bull secure the Formula 1 title.
The Italian outfit is the junior team to Red Bull Racing in F1 and, in exchange for helping them develop their cars, the Milton Keynes-based team provides them with more than 50 per cent of their funding.
The relationship was summed up in 2018 when Toro Rosso switched to Honda and suffered several engine and power unit grid penalties in a bid to help the Japanese manufacturer be ready for when Red Bull follow suit and leave Renault for them ahead of the 2019 campaign.
And Tost claims the Toro Rosso team will be happy to continue assisting Red Bull as much as they can looking ahead.
He said: “We won’t have to have internal discussions about that; that’s part of our approach. “If we can help Red Bull win the title by being the guinea pig in terms of developments, then that’ll happen.”
Tost added: “We’re happier with this role because we’ll see the fruits of our labour as well. “Not only in terms of the engine, but we’ll have advantages in other aspects as well because of the partnership between Honda and Red Bull. “The full backside of the RB15 will come our way as well.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
