Tottenham Edge Man United In White Hart Lane Farewell

Tottenham Hotspur said good bye to White Hart Lane after 118 years at the famous ground following a 2-1 win against Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

A goal in each half from Victor Wanyama and Harry Kane (his first ever EPL goal against United) put Spurs 2-0 up before Wayne Rooney got a goal back for United.

Rooney’s goal was United’s first against a top six side away from home this season.

United made eight changes from the team that eliminated Celta Vigo in the Europa League on Thursday as David De Gea, Axel Tuanzebe, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Juan Mata, Michael Carrick, Rooney and Anthony Martial all make the starting eleven.

The win means Spurs are unbeaten at home this season, last achieving the feat in the 1964/1965 season.

They moved to 80 points and are sure to finish second, while United have 65 points and remain sixth on the log.

Spurs got off to the perfect start as they went 1-0 up on six minutes through Wanyama who headed in Ben Davies’ cross from close-range.

United almost equalised 12 minutes later but Rooney’s header from a corner went just over the bar.

United went close again on 18 minutes through Martial only to see his curler from just inside the box flash narrowly wide of the far post.

A minute later Spurs had a chance to double their lead but De Gea made a one-on-one save off Heung-Min Son while Christian Eriksen sent the rebound wide.

In the 22nd minute Harry Kane’s close-range header from Eriksen’s cross clipped the top of the cross bar.

De Gea stopped Spurs from extending their lead with a brilliant save off Dele Alli’s drive in the 30th minute.

One minute into added time De Gea made a save with his legs to keep out Kane’s low shot.

In the 48th minute of the second half, Spurs went 2-0 up thanks to Kane who turned in Eriksen’s swung in free-kick.

In the 53rd minute Kane had a chance to score his second goal but fired off target after cutting inside.

Martial almost reduced the deficit for United on 63 minutes when he hit an effort which went inches wide.

In the 71st minute Rooney made it 2-1 after tapping in from close-range off Martial’s low cross.

Alli had a big chance to put the game to bed on 84 minutes but Jones got back quickly to head the ball off the line.

Marcus Rashford had one last chance to salvage a point for United in the 92nd minute but poked his effort wide.
