Roma director Francesco Totti has revealed he tried to sign world-class players during the summer transfer window. The Giallorossi were extremely busy in the previous window as they added no less than 10 players to their squad, with Steven Nzonzi, Javier Pastore and Justin Kluivert three of the biggest names to arrive.
Roma have made a slow start to the season, having taken just five points from a possible 12 while they also lost their Champions League opener 3-0 at defending champions Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
Totti, who made the move upstairs at the Stadio Olimpico after hanging up his boots last year, has now revealed he attempted to sign the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer.
“I’ve always said you need champions to win,” he said in the latest excerpt from an interview with La Repubblica. “I hoped Ronaldo, Ibrahimovic, the best players in the world would come. Not just up front, but also defenders and midfielders.
“Unfortunately, we had a limit, we didn’t have the financial muscle to spend on these champions. Really, I tried to bring unthinkable people to Roma.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
