Town Tipped To Make Maupay Move

Huddersfield reportedly want to sign Brentford striker Neal Maupay in January but any deal could cost them up to £10million.

The Sun claim Terriers boss David Wagner is plotting a move for the French frontman in a bid to buy the goals Town need to survive for a second season in the Premier League.

The Bees’ goal machine has notched 10 goals already this term and was on target in Brentford’s 1-1 Championship draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Saturday.

The 22-year-old cost £1.8million when the Championship club signed him from Saint-Etienne in 2021 and Brentford would be keen to hang on to him while they remain in the thick of promotion contention.

However, the west London club have a history of selling and quickly replacing their best players so a mid-season move for the division’s top scorer may not be so fanciful if the price is right.

Maupay must also be convinced that the Huddersfield project is as enticing as Brentford’s ambitious bid to reach the Premier League.

Wagner’s side have been desperately short of goals in both this campaign and during the second half of last season with only four players have scored so far this term and no player providing more than one goal.
