Nigeria Professional Football League club Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan have been thrown into mourning mood following the death of their defender, Izu Joseph, reports Completesportsnigeria.com
Joseph, according to reports, was hit on Sunday by a stray bullet in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State where he was on holiday following the completion of the 2015/ 2016 NPFL season.
Another source also informed Completesportsnigeria.com that the incident occurred in Bayelsa State.
Media officer of the club, Jubril Arowolo, was not available for comment on the players death as his line was switched off.
However, the club's Twitter handle @official3SC confirmed the sad news on Monday morning.
"A Shooting STAR is gone! Izu Joseph is gone! Flamboyant defender is gone! RIP, brother. What a life! May God strengthen his family," the handle tweeted.
Another 3SC official told Completesportsnigeria.com that they have received news of the players death but are yet to get the full details surrounding the incident.
The late Joseph played a huge role in 3SC's survival bid last season, forming a formidable partnership with Waheed Omololu.
