Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong hopes to become a better player during his time Italian club Udinese following his arrival from Bursaspor of Turkey, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
Troost-Ekong swapped Bursaspor for Udinese last week after just one season with the former.
The centre-back made his debut for Udinese in last Sunday’s 2-2 away draw against Parma, playing the entire 90 minutes in the Serie A game.
“I’ve played in several different competitions, I also had a busy summer playing with my national side at the World Cup. I want to improve on a personal level and I also want to grow together with my team-mates,” Troost-Ekong stated during his official presentation by the club on Thursday.
“As a centre-back, being a leader comes naturally to me. I’m the sort of player that talks a lot and so for that reason I’m counting on picking up Italian quickly.”
Having seen his new team fail to keep a clean sheet in his first appearance, Troost-Ekong says he will gel with his new teammates in the course of the campaign.
“I’m not too worried about the goals we let in against Parma: we’re still getting to know each other, we need a bit of time to settle in,” he added
“Against Sampdoria, we’ll be back on home turf, it will be important to secure all three points. We need to play to win, not for the draw.”
The 24-year-old made 32 appearances and scored two goals for his former club, Bursaspor.
He also scored the club’s only goal in the 2-1 defeat to Fenerbahce on the opening day of the Turkish Premier League before making the switch to Udinese.
The former Gent defender however states that his main focus is on preventing his side from conceding goals.
“My first focus is defending dead-ball situations: I will be happy to contribute in attack as well, but we already have plenty of quality up front,” he said.11 BUSINESS NUGGETS FROM SUPER EAGLES BRONZE MEDAL TRIUMPH. The content of this ebook will propel you above your competition. DOWNLOAD NOW!!!
