Nigerian defender, William Troost-Ekong, has praised his KAA Gent teammates for their resolute performance which saw them beat Club Brugge 2-1 in the Belgian top flight Championship playoff on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Despite Troost-Ekong sending off for a second yellow card on 50 minutes, Gent went on to win the game, thanks to a brace from Moses Simon.
Reacting to the hard-fought win, Troost-Ekong wrote on his Twitter handle:"Good win yesterday against Club Brugge. Great fight from the boys to hold on."
Wesley gave Club Brugge the lead in the eight minute but Simon drew Gent level in the 25th minute.
And in the 45th minute of the first half, Simon scored from the penalty spot to give Gent the win.
Aside from Simon and Troost-Ekong, other Nigerian players who were in action for Gent were Anderson Esiti and Samuel Kalu, while Rabiu Ibrahim was an unused substitute.
Six teams are involved in the Belgian Championship playoff which will decide the winner of the league title this season.
The teams are Gent, Anderlecht, Oostende (Joseph Akpala), Zulte-Waregem (Aliko Bala and Kingsley Madu), Sporting Charleroi and Club Brugge.
