Super Eagles defender William Troost-Ekong has been named in the Whosored’s Serie A Team of the Week for matchday-12, for the first time this season, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Troost-Ekong who made his 12th start for Udinese in their 2-1 loss to Empoli away on Sunday was one of the Zebrette’s standout players in the defeat.
The loss was Udinese’s seventh straight defeat in the Serie A this season.
According to Whoscored, the Nigerian defender is paired alongside Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly with Gian Marco Ferrari of Sassuolo and Luiz Felipe of Lazio as fullbacks in a 4-4-3 formation.
As Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini, Jordan Veretout of Fiorentina and SPAL’s Manuel Lazzari made up the three-man midfield while in attack Cristiano Ronaldo who was on target Juventus in their 2-0 win over AC Milan lead the attack and was flanked by Udinese’s Ignacio Pusseto and Atalanta’s Josip Ilicic.
Troost-Ekong is expected in the Super Eagles camp on Tuesday ahead of Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier against South Africa in Johannesburg.
Nigeria top of Group E with nine points from four matches – a point ahead of second-placed South Africa, and the three-time African champions will seal qualification to next year’s tournament if they beat Bafana Bafana.
