Tsitsipas Upsets Djokovic In Rogers Cup

Novak Djokovic has switched his focus to Cincinnati after a shock third-round Rogers Cup defeat against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Toronto.

The 31-year-old Serbian was looking to continue his momentum in 2018 which saw him secure the fourth Wimbledon title of his career last month and also reach the quarter-finals of every tournament since May’s Madrid Open.

However, Djokovic will be forced to build some more after slipping to a surprise 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 defeat against 19-year-old Greek, Tsitsipas, in two hours 18 minutes.

“I really want to do well,” Djokovic said on the ATP Tour website. “Losing in this kind of tournament, it’s not something I don’t care about. It really frustrates me. But I have to accept it, deal with it, and move on.”

The former world number one now has the challenge of trying to win his first the Western & Southern Open title in Cincinnati – the only ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophy missing from his collection.

On his defeat against Tsitsipas, who celebrates his 20th birthday on Sunday, Djokovic added: “I just played not that great, especially from the baseline. I didn’t return well. So all in all, it wasn’t that great of a match.

“You have those days, and better earlier than later in this series.”
