Tuchel Admits Bayern Approach Came Too Late

Thomas Tuchel admits that Bayern Munich approached him about becoming their manager in the summer but he had already chosen PSG. The 45-year-old impressed during his two seasons in charge of Borussia Dortmund, recording a 62.96% win rate and claiming the 2016-17 DFB Pokal, but that was not enough to keep his job, with the BVB hierachy sacking him in May 2017.

The former Mainz coach opted to take a year out of the game before returning to pen a two-year contract at the Parc des Princes in May this year and he confessed that his mind was made up to move to Paris despite interest from the Bavarian giants.

“With Bayern, there were only contacts,” he told L’Equipe. “Their proposal arrived too late, I had already decided to join the PSG.

“My choice after Dortmund was very clear, it was something I had deep down inside me – if I’m lucky enough to have an experience abroad, I have to try. It was clear with my family, my staff and for me. Paris was special, it was a nice surprise.”
