Reports in Germany have claimed that Chelsea are planning to replace Antonio Conte with Thomas Tuchel as manager.
Sport Bild led with the report on Wednesday, declaring that Conte’s future has been discussed at board level and Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia has decided Tuchel is the ideal manager to take over from the Italian at Stamford Bridge.
The German magazine also claims that Chelsea are attracted to the former Borussia Dortmund manager’s preference for young players and tendency to encourage attractive football.
There is reportedly friction between Conte and Granovskaia with the manager complaining about Chelsea’s transfer activity all summer. The director is also said to be displeased with how Conte handled the Diego Costa situation, especially the infamous text message sent to the wantaway striker telling Costa he was no longer needed at the club.
Tuchel, 43, left Borussia Dortmund in May after two seasons. He fell out with the club and quit just three days after leading them to victory in the DFB-Pokal final.
Conte, 48, led Chelsea to the Premier League title and the FA Cup final in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
