U-17 AFCON WAFU Qualifiying: Ghana Get Big Boost As Injured Defender Returns For Final Clash Vs Nigeria

The Black Starlets of Ghana have been handed a massive boost ahead of their CAF U-17 AFCON WAFU qualifying final against Nigeria as defender Abdul Samed declares himself fit for the Saturday’s clash.

Samed’s arm was heavily strapped after Ghana’s epic 2-1 win over Ivory Coast in the first semi-final clash on Wednesday.

The Dreams FC defender has played every single minute of Ghana’s campaign at the tournament being staged in Niger to emphasize his importance to the side.

Losing him ahead of the final match against rivals Nigeria was bound to deal a heavy blow to coach Karim Zito’s team.

But the left-back says he is well enough to play on Sunday.

“I felt some pains in my arm but this morning the pain is no more,” he told FootballmadeinGhana.com.

“I think if it continues like this, I will be ready to play in the final.”

The winner of the final match on Saturday will qualify to play at next year’s Africa U-17 Championship to be hosted by Tanzania.

This guy legs are scary and make him look old, holy moses!!!!!

  • And this guy with such tall legs is under 17??????

Africa and corruptions at all levels!!!!!

  • _Ghana Coach Talking Tough_

My thoughts and prayers are with my darling Golden Eaglets of Nigeria who overcame the mini-set back of losing their opening match to set up an epic finale against Ghana U-17 side today.

A lot of neutral observers have tipped the free scoring Eaglets to overcome their west African neighbors.

Ghana Coach Zito, however, believes he has worked out a game plan that will guarantee victory for his boys.

“I have seen Nigeria on two occasions and they are a very good side with a lot of qualities,” he told FootballmadeinGhana.com.

They have a better physique than my boys but we also have some unique qualities which we can use to our advantage.

My boys are mentally very tough and I believe our high pressing to stop them from combining play effectively will do the trick the trick for us.”

NFF boss Amaju Pinnick has however urged our boys to maintain their level of concentration saying to them :“ I want you to know that the job is not done yet. You must stay focused and listen to your coaches.”

Only the winner of Saturday’s final will qualify to play at next year’s Africa Junior Championships to be hosted by Tanzania.

Many of my highly respected brothers on this forum have bemoaned this rather stupid qualification system that will ensure 1 powerhouse of African under-17 football gets eliminated at an early stage.

I will be hoping that the elimited team will be Ghana.

  • I’m a big fan of Manu Garba, ever since his boys went on to win the world cup in UAE in 2013. His style of play is second to non, as a coach, he is one of the most successful coach at the youth level and had we maintain him as coach of our u20 together with his assistant we’ll have had a pool of youngsters for the future. But it was not meant to be. This is yet another chance and opportunity to leave this man and his team to grow through the ranks. He may not have best of credentials but his success speaks for itself, just as those with best of credentials are not always most successful of managers in the world and Nigeria alike, but he is one of the best that we have for now.
I sincerely wish to see him better his record by winning all tournaments starting with this WAFU B Qualifiers. Good luck to the team.

  • To God be the glory..

  • Like a provibial cat with nine lives, Manu Garba has another chance to prove to the nay sayers that he is good enough. You also need to prove to us that the team you produced that went on to conquer the world was not a fluke even though it was one of the best team Nigeria ever had, you have to surpass your achievements with the current set of u17 players.
You are a fighter and achiever, we believe you can do it yet again.
    Big congrats to the boys.
    Congrats to the coaching crew.
The task ahead is a huge one you most prepare adequately to write your names in history books not by winning only the qualifiers by going ahead to win the u17 championship in Tanzania as well do not rest on your laurels.

    Congrats lads!
    Beating Ghana 3-1 on penalties.
    Let’s go to Tanzania!!!

  • _Victory Against Bitter Rivals is So Sweet_

Our darling Golden Eaglets of Nigeria overcame Ghana on penalties to win the WAFU U-17 tournament in Niger and qualify for the African Championship to be held in Tanzania.

The match ended 1-1 at full time.

However, our boys showed skill, concentration and dexterity in the penalty shootouts to finish off the Black Starlets 3-1 in style.

The victory means we win the first WAFU B U17 Championship while Ghana will have to wait for another opportunity in like 2 years time.

What makes this victory all so significant is that Coach Manu Garba overcame losing some of the players he had relied on earlier when they failed MRI scan.

    Well done boys!
