Five youngsters with Nigerian blood Dominic Solanke, Joshua Onomah, Seyi Ojo, Ovie Ejaria and Fikayo Tomori were in action for the England U-20 national team on Saturday as the young Three Lions defeated ten-man Argentina 3-0 in their first Group A match of the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Chlesea youth striker Solanke scored England’s third goal in the 90th minute from the penalty spot. Central defender Tomori was also in action throughout the duration of the match
Another English player with Nigerian descent, Everton’s Ademola Lookmnan was an unused substitute in the match.
England scored first in the 38th minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin nodded the ball to the bottom right corner from a cross.
The English scored their second goal in the 52nd minute when Adam Armstrong latched onto a thorugh pass to beat Argentina goalkeeper Franco Petroli.
Argenitina striker Lautaro Martinez was sent off in the 78th minute for elbowing an opponent and the referee sent off the Argentine with the aid of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
Liverpool youngster Ejaria came off the bench in the 84th minute in place of Tottenham Hotspur’s Onomah as England eased to victory.
Meanwhile, one of Africa’s representatives at the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Guinea, were thrashed 3-0 to hosts South Korea in Group A on Saturday.
Seung-Woo Lee, Min-Hyuk Miam and Seung-Ho Paik were the scorers for South Korea.
Lee opened the scoring for South Korea in the 36th minute.
Miam doubled South Korea’s lead in the 76th minute before Paik sealed the win with an 81st minute goal.
Guinea’s next Group A match is against England on Tuesday.
Africa’s two other representatives Zambia (African champions) and South Africa will be in action on Sunday against Portugal and Japan respectively, while Senegal will face Saudi Arabia on Monday.
In other results in the opening day of the 2017 U-20 World Cup, England stunned Argentina 3-0, Mexico edged Vanuatu 3-2 and Venezuela shocked Germany 2-0.
