Germany recorded their second win of Group D at the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France, defeating China 2-0 on Thursday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The win seals their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Goals from Giulia Gwinn and Laura Freigang in the 31st and 40th minutes gave Germany a deserved win at the Stade de Marville, Saint-Malo in France.
Gwinn fired a stunning shot from the edge of the box to give Germany the lead against the run of play just after the half hour mark. Freigang made it 2-0 nine minutes later heading in a cross from the right flank.
The win send Germany to the top of Group D with six points from two games.
China are currently second (with three points from two games) pending the outcome of the other group game involving Nigeria and Haiti.
Germany will face Haiti in their final group game next Monday at the Stade de la Rabine while China will face Nigeria Clos Gastel Stadium in Léhon at the same time on the same day.
