By James Agberebi:
Algeria gave their chance of qualifying for the semi-final of the CAF U-23 Africa Cup of Nations a big boost following their 2-0 win against Mali in Group B on Wednesday.
After a closely contested first half which saw both teams failing to find the back of the net, the Algerians broke the deadlock through Zinedine Ferhat in the 74th minute.
In the 84th minute, the Algerians doubled their lead following an own goal by Youssef Traore who diverted a cross into his own net.
Algeria, who drew with Egypt in their first match, will now need at least a point against Nigeria on Friday to confirm qualification for the last four.
The defeat is Mali’s second after they lost 3-2 to Nigeria in their first game, meaning the West Africans have crashed out of the tournament.Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
