U-23 AFCON: Dimeji Lawal Sure Nigeria Will Beat Egypt

By Kayode Ogunbanwo:

Former Nigeria international, Dimeji Lawal, insists Nigeria will emerge winners against Egypt in their second Group B game of the ongoing Africa U-23 Cup of Nations holding in Senegal.

The Ibadan-based former Super Eagles star admitted that the Nigerian side played quite disappointingly despite the 3-2 victory against Mali, but believes strongly that coach Samson Siasia would have by now perfected the lapses spotted in that encounter.

“Truly, there were quite number of blunders committed by our boys which reflected a poor display in that first game, but thank God Nigeria got the three points, which to me was all important,” Lawal told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“Let me not say that the clash with Egypt will be difficult or the other way round but I know certainly that Siasia must have watched the Algeria versus Egypt clash to know the right approach for the match that will inspire Nigeria for victory.

“We cannot be telling Siasia what to do, he is the coach and he knows what to do to win a match. We should just hope to see a better performance from the team against Egypt.

“I just feel convinced that Nigeria will defeat the Pharaohs as the first win will act as morale booster.”
A win in Wednesday's game will brighten Nigeria’s chance of featuring in the Rio 2016 Olympics, after failing to feature at the last edition in London.
