Siasia said the only way the players will convince themselves and Nigerians that they are worthy ambassadors of Nigeria is to go out there and win.
“I have confidence in your ability to play good football, but you guys must show that in the field of play, most of you are playing outside the shores of the country for the first time, so I expect some of you to be jittery, the only favor you can do for me and the coaching crew is to talk on the field of play,” Siasia told the players after the whole team reviewed their 5-3 loss to their Tunisia counterparts in the first match.
“This Tunisian team are beatable, we gifted them 4 goals that were not necessary, and to me that red card made matters worse for us, these blunders we can’t afford to make if we must win the next game”
Siasia then called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the team and wish them well.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian ambassador to Tunisia will host to the team after the second game on Wednesday. The occasion which would have been staged on Monday was shifted to Wednesday so as not to distract the team before the game.
The U23 Eagles will take a break on Monday and will resume training on Tuesday in order to get themselves set for the next match.
On their part, some of the players have been speaking on their first game.
“We made some unforgivable mistakes, we will ensure that we go out there and salvage some pride for ourselves and country,” said team captain, Erhun Obanor.
“I feel so terrible picking that red card, which incidentally was my first since I started playing football, I could not sleep all through the night, if I have another opportunity to play the next game, I will do every thing not to pick such a stupid card,” Faisal Sanni admitted.
Goalkeeper Daniel Emmanuel also spoke of his downside in the first game against the North Africans: “I think I suffered some lack of concentration, that was why I conceded those two early goals, even though I made some saves later in the game, the havoc had already been done, this won’t happen again,” Emmanuel assured.
”I feel great scoring two goals in this game, but of what effect are my goals when we lost? We need to play more as a team so as not to concede such high number of goals” Junior Ajayi added.
The Dream Team VI also have another set of players representing them at the Super 4 Invitational Tournament in Abuja.
