Nigeria’s U-23 national team, the Dream Team VI, will go for a recess and resume camping on January 5, 2015, Completesportsnigeria.com gathered.
The head coach of the team, Samson Siasia, has left for the United States to be with his family during the Christmas season.
“You know that the team have a loaded programme, so if I don’t go now I don’t know when I will get the chance to go and see them,” Siasia said.
“While in the US, the job continues because I need to monitor players that I feel would be good to help the team.
Siasia, who is having his second stint with the team he led to the final of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China where Nigeria lost 1-0 to a Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina and won silver, also thanked the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation for their support since he took charge of the team.
“The NFF has been of a great help in this regard, so I am not going to fold my arms while in the US, but will continue to do the job over there.
“Our resolve is to have a strong team that would be capable of winning matches and competitions.
“This is our goal and target and with the support of football loving Nigerians, the football federation and the National Sports Commission, I am confident of achieving this,” he said.
Nigeria will begin its campaign to qualify for the All African Games and the 2016 Olympics in the New Year.
Siasia was also in charge of the Flying Eagles side that got to final of the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Holland.
