Super Eagles winger Moses Simon made his UEFA Champions League debut for KAA Gent in their 1-1 draw against Olympique Lyon at the Ghelamco Arena to the delight of his national team coach Sunday Oliseh.
Moses who made way for Benito Raman in the 69th minute of the draw has played all seven games for the Belgian champions in the league this term.
“Glad to see Moses Simon start for Gent as they take on Lyon in the Champions league. A good week for our super Eagles players so far,” Oliseh tweeted on Wednesday night.
At Stamford Bridge, Nosa Igiebor played all 90 minutes for Maccabi Tel Aviv who slumped to a 4-0 defeat to a resurgent Chelsea who were barely threatened.
Goals from Willian, Oscar, Diego Costa and Fabregas got the English Champions League campaign off to the perfect start.
His compatriot Mikel Obi who has played 55 times in the competition was left out of the Blues squad that earned their second win of the season in all competitions.
In Greece, Brown Ideye made his UEFA Champions League debut for Olympiakos who lost 3-0 at home to Bayern Munich. He was on from start to finish.
