Udeze: Eagles Coaches Should Comb NPFL For Good Left-Back; Use Martins, Emenike As Back-up To Ighalo

By Izuchukwu Okosi:                                                                                                                     Former Nigeria left-back, Ifeanyi Udeze, has called on Super Eagles coach Gernot Rhor and his crew to look inward and discover a good backup for Elderson Echiejile for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Super Eagles left-back Elderson Echiejile has been criticised by a section of Nigerian fans for below par performances in the team’s recent matches.

“I will not single out any left-back to be added to the team because we do not have so many around,” Udeze told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“However, I feel the coaches should monitor the Nigeria Professional Football League  and invite the best performing left-back  so that he can play in friendlies ahead of the World Cup.

Zenith Ziva

“In spite of all the criticism of Echiejile, experience is vital. He is important to this team, but another quality left-back is necessary. For me, I would say let’s give a home-based player a chance.”

Udeze’s would also bare his mind on the Super Eagles’ top striker position.

“The squad is solid, but I won’t mind to have Obafemi Martins and Emmanuel Emenike back in the team, to support Odion Ighalo who is undoubtedly our best striker at the moment.

“We need these experienced guys at the World Cup. We should have a blend of youth and experience in the team for tge World Cup,” the onetime West Bromwich Albion of England and PAOK of Greece left-back concluded.

  • Seriously he needs bck up.

  • You Ve Spoken The Truth

  • 100% supported. Rohr also shouldn’t Fernando Adi.

Hahahahahahaha! Well said bro. Imagine in one of their article clamouring for the recall of babatunde and omeruo. Nosa igiebor, godfrey oboabona, paul onobi, egwuekwe, salami, haruna lukmand and even taiye taiwo should be recalled as well

  • charles emeka okwu 4 years ago

The blend of the old and young is a welcomed advice but recalling martins and emenike will be no brainer at all. The squad already have experienced heads in mikel, moses, musa, ighalo, onazi, elderson and balogun. A player must not only be tagged experienced if he has featured in a world cup match but the league, number of yrs as a professional and exposure should count as well. The likes of martins and co have contributed their own quota so its time to give the new generation a chance to represent the country. Even i urge rohr to scout more younger players who will form the fulcrum of this team in the future and start giving them chances gradually.

Ighalo is good but should watched his weight and learn to cope under pressure. With the Zambian defence line detailed to shut him up, Nigeria suffered. Iheanacho was unfortunate to remained rooted on the bench despite need to have replaced Ighalo as early injury to Onazi disrupted substitution.
Having said that, more strikers should be sought to compliment him( Ighalo)

    • charles emeka okwu 4 years ago

Ighalo was shut out by the zambians but his source of supply (mikel and moses) were man marked through out the match. Maybe he missed one or two chances which to me are half chances that doesnt make him a bad players. Iheanacho if introduced wouldnt have done better either. Iheanacho play better when paired with a partner upfront whereas he will be deployed behind the main man. Using him as a lone striker have never worked for the team and thats why the nff n rohr are trying all they can to get abraham who is a natural number 9. Even anthony nwakaeme would have done better than iheanacho if he subed in for ighalo because of his physical and robust play which would have unsettled the zambians. Another player rohr should have a look in is fc midtylland’s paul onuachu who have been very impressive in the danish league for the past 3 seasons. I know what have been working against him is league he plays in but notwithstanding he should be invited and tried out. I hope maybe in the winter transfer window he will move to a bigger league.

The reason why this ex internationals are poor in coaching. Our football was worse off with them as coaches.Imagine Udeze as super eagles coach.I bet by now we would be third in our group. We should be thankful to pinnick who took our football to the next level by appointing a well grounded foreign expertriate who knows his onions and our football is better for it.

    • Greenturf thank you Very Much Ifeanyi Udeze is ridiculous LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • charles emeka okwu 4 years ago

Lol thats the homebase sentiment that have bedeviled our football for the past few years. How on planet earth can one advice the coach to source for remedy to our problematic leftback in the local league when they are few kids of nigerian lineage who has the talent to make that position theirs for many years? If udeze have seen felix udokhai of wolfsburg or hertha berlin’s torunarigha play he will urge the coach to do everything possible to lure any of them to play for the super eagles. Imagine scouting for a leftback in the npl where clubs are to lazy to nuture young talents rather they recycle old players who do little to inprove their game. In the npl as a whole chima akas is the best leftback and we saw him play at the just concluded wafu cup where he was piss poor.

  • Never again for Martins or emenike!

  • Make na allow this man do his work.

  • After Ola Aina Played so well in his Cameo appearance so we should just Disregard a chelsea player for a home based Left back when our Home based Eagles and Clubs keep disappointing us in Continental Competitions? Oga Ifeanyi Udeze thank you for input as a player but that is where your help ends, your input and advice is no longer needed when it comes to super Eagles. Thank you

  • That’s y indigenous coaches are struggling to take our football to a greater height bcos of favouritism

  • How can you people saying that he said the truth . how can this man say that we need martins and emenike while we have better options . anyway thank u for ur concern but we don’t need them.

  • charles emeka okwu 4 years ago

Players like solomon kwambe, azubuike egwuekwe, godfrey oboabona, salami, paul onobi, ejike uzoenyi, chidozie agbim, sunday mba etc that keshi and oliseh made us to believe they are the best we had both home and abroad where are they now?

    • Add Babatunde Michael and Reuben Gabriel too. They were the reasons Nigeria played like a Lesotho team at Brazil 2014. Keshi became big-headed after he won AFCON 2013.

  • Where is this guy on planet earth? Does he even read or watch tv? Does he listen to the radio sports programs? It is obvious that the answer to the above questions is no, no, no. How can someone following Nigerian football even think of Martins(Obafemi?) and Emenike(Emmanuel?). We need to reenforce some positions but let us suggest intelligently. Like. What one forumite commented and asked what will happen to the Eagles if Udeze is appointed Super Eagles’ coach? He will submit a list of players to be invited that may probably include Martins, Emenike, Isaac Success, Jay Jay Okocha, Amokachi, KANU, Chris Green, Peter Rufia, Aloy Agu, Finidi George, Yakini, Odiye. Chris Green will be surprised that some player somewhere is his namesake not believing that it is him the Udeze coach is inviting. This guy is not up to date at all.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha! My belle ooooo! Bros we wucked! Our ex internationals have been one of the greatest undoing in our football. Chai i remmber years back when keshi felt he was doing nigerians a favour by coaching the national team after his afcon triumph 2013. After the feat his head blew up and he became too pompous and arrogant reminding the nff of how many offers he has on the tables already always. I told some of my football loving friends then that keshi was the greatest mistake the nff had made in a long while and his afcon win was by luck and determination by the players who had so much self belief after winning the star studded CIV but they saw me as a keshi hater. I remember vividly that imoh ezekiel was banging goals for fun in the begian league then in the colours of standard liege and was talk of the town in the whole of belgium but keshi never gave him a chance rather he picked michael uchebo, babatunde and co. Sone aluko was doing pretty well for high flying hull city then in the championship but was ignored. Keshi took junks to the world cup, made it to the 2nd round out of luck amd was celebrated as if he won the world cup. The french team that eliminated the super eagles were beatable if keshi went to that world cup with a stronger bench. Onazi got injured and the team collasped. I thank amaju pinnick’s led nff for getting it right by hiring rohr to tinker the team. If they relied on ex internationals to build a team for us i guess by now many nigerians would have turn to hockey fans.

I only have problem with the leftback

  • Who is emenike and Martins ??? We know them not
