Kano Pillars defender Chinedu Udoji says he still nurses the ambition of playing abroad, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Udoji, who joined Kano Pillars from Enyimba this season, however insists that he will only ditch the Nigerian Professional Football League if he gets a lucrative deal abroad.

“The truth is that every year I get offers abroad,” Udoji told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“I have played on the continent, played up to the semi-final stage. This is my ninth season in the Nigerian league and there is no season that has gone by without me getting one or two offers.

“But the truth is that I am not so eager to leave the country. If I am earning N200,000 in Nigeria and outside Nigeria a club offers me N400,000, I would rather stay back in Nigeria.

“If anything will make me leave this country, then the offer must be far better than what I am currently earning. It must be something that will impact me and my family.

“If God says I will make it in Nigeria then why should I want to leave? What is important is the way you manage yourself. I am a very ambitious person, if a good offer comes why not, I will accept but it must be a reasonable amount of money.”

Udoji dismisses negative reports about the Nigerian league.

He added: “The Nigerian league is not a bad league. Anybody that says the league is bad, that is a lie. A lot of players have made their names and money in the Nigerian league and I personally I am enjoying it, I love everything about the league.”

Speaking on Pillars away trip to league leaders Plateau United on Sunday, Udoji who revealed that he wouldn’t be available due to health issues, expressed confidence that Pillars have what it takes to secure three points.

“Though I wouldn’t be playing, I am wishing the team all the best. The game against Plateau United is going to be a tough encounter which I was looking forward to playing but unfortunately I wouldn’t be available.

“But I believe in spite of my absence, there are capable players who the coach can call upon to do the job. What matters to me is the three points and not whether I will play or not.”

On his target after joining Pillars, Udoji said: “Before I left Enyimba for Kano Pillars which took a lot of people by surprise, my target was to come and win trophies. That has always been my dream right from childhood.

“When I joined Kano Pillars, I looked at their objective, they’ve not won a trophy for the past two years. But when I was informed about the package for the team and the keenness of the state governor to win a trophy, I looked at it as a challenge for myself. I believe we can achieve this season with hard work and determination.”
