–Tips Ghana, CIV to excel in Brazil
The Black Stars of Ghana and Ivory Coast have been tipped to perform well at the 2014 FIFA World Cup by Uganda Cranes Coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
Hosts Brazil and Croatia kick started the event last night with a Group A tie at the Arena Corinthians in Sao Paulo.
In an interview with AfricanFootball, Sredojevic said on Thursday afternoon that he thinks Ghana and Ivory Coast are the two African teams that have what it takes to perform well at the event.
“I do not believe Nigeria or Cameroon will really reach far. But Ghana is my first on the list for the African teams that will perform well because they are more of a team and their chemistry is very strong,” reasoned the Serbian, who has been coaching in Africa since 2000.
Sredojevic reasoned that although Didier Drogba’s Ivory Coast are in a seemingly good group that has Japan, Colombia and Greece, they are a team that play more of an individual football and do not have the spirit to fight back when things are getting terrible on the pitch.
He said the Ghana team under home-based coach James Kwesi Appiah have the capacity to go further than the quarterfinal stage that they reached during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The Black Stars are in Group G alongside USA, Germany and Portugal.

That would be a tall order for Ghana to go further than the quarters. With teams like Germany, USA and Portugal, that would be a tall order indeed. However, the grouping has made Ghana trainer harder and are looking good enough, not necessarily for the quarter finals, but at least to give a respectable representation of themselves and Africa at the Copa Mundo. Ivory Coast has a less daunting task, on paper at least. About Nigeria, better to wait and see. When we begin to say Nigeria will do this or that, we get very disappointed. Let us shot up for once, and see what happens. Of course, we should patriotically urge the team on, regardless. All countries do the same for their teams. Good luck!
