Flying Eagles assistant coach to the 2015 U-20 World Cup in New Zealand, Nduka Ugbade, has described the Golden Eaglets 2-1 win against Brazil at the Suwon Tournament as a huge boost going into the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
The Eaglets who played a 1-1 draw with hosts, South Korea in their first game, picked their first win by beating Brazil.
Speaking with Completesportsnigeria.com, Ugbade cautions the Eaglets not to get carried away with the result.
“That’s a very good result for the team, I believe it will serve as a motivating factor going into the World Cup,” the captain of the triumphant Golden Eaglets at China’85 told Completesportsnigeria.com.
“But having said that, they must not allow the result against Brazil get into their heads because they still have a long way to go.”
Ugbade urged the Nigeria Football Federation to organize more friendly games for the team.
“The Suwon tournament shouldn’t be the last friendly before the World Cup, there should be continuity.
“They shouldn’t say because we played the Suwon tournament then that’s it. No, it shouldn’t be. Once they get back from Korea, the NFF should still arrange for them to travel in order to get more exposure against teams from other countries who are exposed to better facilities.
“I think they should play at least four top warm up games before the competition kicks off. They have to continue to compete, just like it is done at the senior level,” Ugbade told Completesportsnigeria.com.
