Peter Uihlein backed up his opening 63 with a 66 to maintain his lead at the halfway point of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The American led overnight and despite an early bogey at the second, went on to card six birdies over his final 15 holes to move to 13-under for the tournament.

That is enough to give him a two-shot advantage ahead of Robert Streb and Whee Kim, while Ryder Cup star Bryson DeChambeau is three off the pace in a tie for fourth, with a handful of players still to complete 36 holes after darkness brought a premature end to Friday’s play.
Uihlein has never won on the PGA Tour but has experience of getting the job done in Europe, having triumphed at the 2013 Madeira Islands Open, while he also claimed a victory on the Web.com Tour in 2017.
Despite some missed opportunities on Friday at TPC Summerlin, the 29-year-old says he is encouraged by how well he is playing heading into the weekend.
“I didn’t hole them kind of in the seven through 11 stretch, but I kept giving myself chances. That’s all you can do really,” Uihlein explained. “I feel like I am putting well so I felt like eventually the ball would go in. As long as I just kept giving myself chances and staying patient I had a chance.
“There’s a lot of holes that set up well for me. A lot of just good sightlines with some good bunker placements. My distance control with my irons has been very good this week, so I’ve been able to have a kind of more stress-free two days.”
