Former Super Eagles striker Anthony Ujah has give his FSV Mainz teammate Robin Quaison huge credit for providing a wonderful pass which he pounced on to score his first Bundesliga goal of the season against VFB Stuttgart on Sunday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Ujah came off the substitute’s bench in the 67th minute and scored ten minutes later calmly slotting home Quaison’s delightful pass after the Swedish star nipped the ball round Holger Badstuber by surprise to lay a perfect pass for him to tap in his first Bundesliga goal in over two years on Sunday as Mainz edged VfB Stuttgart 1-0 at the Opel Arena.
Incidentally, the 27 year old’s last goal in the Bundesliga was against VfB Stuttgart in May 5, 2016 in the colours of SV Werder Bremen.
The strike took Ujah’s tally to six in seven appearances against VfB Stuttgart, more than against any other side.
“I think the goal belongs to Quaison because he made life very difficult for Badstuber and he made him very uncomfortable. At the end he got the ball on his feet and I just needed to show him where, which position I have to be to score and luckily he found me,” the former Liaoning FC of China attacker revealed in a video on Mainz 05’s official Twitter handle.
“Also there was a bit of luck with the goal because the defender made contact but at the end a goal is a goal.”
