Ujah Joins Chinese Club Liaoning From Reluctant Werder Bremen

By James Agberebi: Nigeria striker, Anthony Ujah, will be joining Chinese first division side Liaoning FC from Werder Bremen for an undisclosed fee.

Ujah's move, which is subject to a medical, was confirmed on Werder Bremen's official website by the club's sporting director Frank Bauman on Tuesday.

“It was not actually our intention to sell Tony because he was set to play an important role in our plans for next season," Bauman said.

"But he told us a few days ago that he would like to accept the offer from China. In the end, we have come to a satisfactory solution for both parties so that we could agree to his request."
Ujah described his move to the Chinese league as an opportunity which he couldn't turn down.

"It was a very difficult decision for me because I’ve become very fond of the city, the club and, above all, the fans in the past year. That’s why a possible transfer didn’t come into question in winter.

"Now there is a new opportunity, which I can’t reject. I’m lucky that I could contribute to the happy ending of last season and wish SVW all the best," Ujah said.

Ujah joined Bremen from FC Köln in summer 2015 scoring 11 goals in 32 Bundesliga games for the Green-Whites.

He also netted three times in five DFB Cup appearances for SV Werder Bremen.
