Unhappy Christensen Not Planning Chelsea Exit

Andreas Christensen says he is unhappy with his current situation at Chelsea but is not expecting to leave the club in January. The Denmark international was a regular under Antonio Conte last season, making 40 appearances in all competitions, but has fallen out of favour since Maurizio Sarri took charge.

The 22-year-old has been restricted to six outings in the EFL Cup and Europa League, failing to get on the field for a single minute of Premier League action so far.

Last month, Christensen’s father – who is also his agent – suggested a January move away from Stamford Bridge was an option if his son’s situation did not improve and he has subsequently been linked with a switch to AS Monaco.

The defender has now made it clear he will not put up with his current role in Sarri’s squad long-term but does not expect to move out of west London when the transfer window opens in the new year.

Asked by Sky Sports if he could leave Chelsea in January, Christensen said: “Difficult question. No, I don’t think so. “Things are different from last season. I played a lot of games [last season] but this season it hasn’t been like that. It’s always difficult for a player but we’ll see what happens.

“If you asked every player that’s not playing if they’re happy, they’re going to say no. Everyone wants to play. “I can’t do anything else but go back there, train and do my best. Every time I get that opportunity, I have to do well and show him that he can count on me.”
