Manchester United have been offered Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira – at £200,000-a-week.
Germany’s defensive midfielder is out of contract in the summer and the top Premier League clubs have been alerted.
One of them is United, who are seeking a player for that role and their original target – Roma’s Dutchman Kevin Strootman – is still plagued by knee trouble.
If United sign Khedira – 28 yesterday – he would be the club’s first senior German player.
But Old Trafford boss Louis van Gaal is also chasing Khedira’s international team-mate Mats Hummels, the Borussia Dortmund centre-back.
United, though, could face competition from Chelsea, whose boss Jose Mourinho managed Khedira at Real.
And there could also be strong interest from Arsenal and Liverpool.
Khedira, who has had his own injury issues, missed the World Cup Final last year when he was hurt in the pre-match warm-up.
That was after he scored in the semi-final as Germany sensationally humiliated hosts Brazil 7-1.
Khedira is now ready to quit Real and fancies the Premier League, but he could also be offered a return to the Bundesliga by Wolfsburg.
Also leaving the Bernabeu is on-loan United striker Javier Hernandez, with Real deciding not to take up their option to sign the Mexican permanently.
Southampton, though, are interested in the player known as Chicharito.
That could trigger talks on an exchange deal, with United keen on the Saints’ England right-back Nathaniel Clyne.Copyright © 2022 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
