Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Marquinhos after Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc insisted that the French club are planning to do everything possible to keep the player this summer.
United have been linked with a swoop for the defender as Louis van Gaal looks to shore up his defence ahead of next season.
The speculation linking Marquinhos with a move to Old Trafford gathered pace this week after the Brazilian revealed his delight at seeing himself linked with the Premier League club.
However, United look set to face a battle to bring the 20-year-old to the club after Blanc insisted that PSG have no intention of letting one of their prized assets leave the club.
Blanc is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “Marquinhos has a spirit and a special mentality.
“We have done everything to keep him and we will do everything possible to extend his contract.
“It is good that as a player he can operate in different defensive roles, and let’s not forget he is just 20 years old. He and Adrien Rabiot represent the future of PSG.”
Marquinhos, who joined the Parisian club in a big-money deal from Roma in 2013, has scored one goal in 17 top-flight appearances this season, racking up 1,315 minutes of first-team football in Ligue 1.
He has scored six goals in all competitions following £27m move to the Ligue 1 champions from Roma in July 2013.
