Roger Federer continued to defy his advanced age as he won his 20th Grand Slam men’s singles title in Melbourne, Australia on Sunday.
The Swiss maestro, 36, defeated Marin Cilic in five sets 6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 in the Australian Open final to extend his record as the most successful men’s tennis player in history.
Federer powered through the first set with an easy 6-2 win and looked to be coasting to his sixth Australian Open title.
But Cilic fought back gamely to win the second set 7-6 and tie the gripping final 1-1.
The next two sets were shared, with Federer first winning 6-3 and Cilic also winning by the same score.
