By Johnny Edward:

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho, conceded three goals while in action for RC Deportivo Fabril in Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Celta Vigo B in the Spanish Segunda B Group 1, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Uzoho who was making his 22nd appearance for the club has now conceded 17 goals, and kept 12 clean sheets for RC Deportivo Fabril.

The win was the first for the Hibs over Celtic since December 2012, and it was the third time that Brendan Rodgers’ side has lost in the league this season.

Ambrose has made 34 SPL appearances for the Hibs this season.

In Turkey, Shehu Abdulahi made his 12th appearance for Bursaspor in their 4-1 away win at Karabukspor.

The Nigeria international was yellow carded in the 72nd minute of the ill-tempered encounter that saw seven yellow cards and a red card issued.

His compatriots, William Troost Ekong and Mikel Agu were unused substitutes in the encounter. It was the second game in a row that the pair were left out of the starting lineup.

William Troost Ekong has made 25 appearances for the club scoring twice while Mikel Agu has 22 games under his belt scoring twice as well.

Ogenyi Onazi was not included in Trabzonspor’s side that lost 2-0 at home to Sivasspor. Onazi has made 18 league appearances for Trabzonspor this term.

Sammy Ameobi played all 90 minutes for Bolton Wanderers who slumped to a 4-0 defeat at home to English Premier League bound side, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The game was Ameobi’s 33rd of the season. Bolton remains two points clear of the relegation zone, in 21st position, with 40 points from 44 games.

Ola Aina played for 44 minutes before he was replaced by Fikayo Tomori in Hull City’s 5-5 draw with Bristol City. The game was Aina’s 44th appearance this season for Hull in the English Championship.

Some one once told me Ambrose Efe is not playing for a strong side at Scotland couple of months back…
That he is not a good replacement for Awaziem….
And yet his team knocked out Scottish champions Celtic

  • If Ambrose is really good and playing regularly, I think we need him in SE. He has the experience that is lacking in our depence.

Good news that Uzoho conceded only 17 goals in his 22nd appearance. In 44th appearance it will be 34 goals. Compare his own to EPL goalkeepers according to the table. So far EPL is in their 35th game so most of their goalkeepers are on that much appearance- Man City 25 goals conceded; Man United 26; Liverpool 37; Tottenham 31; Chelsea 34; Arsenal 34; Burnley 31; Leicester 47; Everton 54; Newcastle 42; Bournemouth 58; Warlord 60; Brighton 47; West Ham 59; Crystal Palace 54; Swansea 46; Southampton 53; Stoke 64; West Brom 54. From this record it means that Uzoho is not a basket. He is not leaking goals as some people would have us believe. He is far better than almost all the goalkeepers in the Premier league. We have hope and thank you Complete Sports for bringing this information to our notice. No shaking for Russia.

    • People would understand your analysis better if you can compute it percentage.

@Sint, why do you think you can understand that simple comparison of Uzoho goals conceded with goals conceded so far by premier league goalkeepers and other will not understand it. Anyway you can help those you think will not understand it to understand with your so call percentage.

Hahaha Nigeria @Djeniko good response if he can understand why won’t other [email protected] kindly give us the percentage since you want others to understand. Now my point…let us try to respect one another on this forum regardless of writers opinion because i trust we are gentlemen who has never met before

  • Uzoho is most definitely one for the future.

He is quick, agile, responsive and highly skillful for one so young.

However, in an ideal world, Uzoho will still be developing his skills in Under 21 and Under 23 teams.

Which is why his club quite rightly and wisely loaned him to a division 3 club (similar to the conference league in England) to hone his skills and make valuable mistakes that will form the basis of his experience for greater challenges to come in years ahead.

Like his club, it may be wise for Nigeria to allow him develop his skills and talents in the right channel rather than just throw the young man in the deep end by making him number one at the World Cup.

It may just be too early.

That said, the so called goal keeper crisis makes considering making Uzoho number one an option.

Having said that, it will remain a huge surprise if a mature coach like Rohr picks youth, exuberance, inexperience and novelty ahead of experience, maturity, application and exposure (despite Akpeyi’s mishaps).

@Deo I remember reading sometime ago in november last year when he ( Uzoho ) played three games for Depotivo La Coruna in the Spanish La Liga before he was invited to the camp of the super Eagles that he was returned to the bench because he couldn’t communicate in Spanish he was still learning the language. So they made do with the second keeper and when the first choice finger injury was over the keeper came back to duty.Uzoho had to be brought back to the second division because they were being threaten by relegation.Uzoho single handedly steered them out of regulation. He is playing in the lower division not because he is young but because he couldn’t communicate effectively in Spanish.Give Francis now till december his spanish would have been better and fluent.

  • @Ayewoh, you appear to be saying that the sole reason why Uzoho was sent to the lower divisions was because of language barrier but I seem to remember differently.

Uzoho was indeed enjoying a fine run under coach Pepe Mel who gave the U-17 Nigeria World Cup winner first team games and exposure (as you allude to above).

However, following a poor start to the season (earning 8 points from 9 games and languishing at 16th position) the 2:1 loss in October to Olanrewaju Kayode’s Girona (in which Uzoho was the goal keeper) led to the coach to being sacked!

The new coach, Christobal Parralo sought to make changes and rid the first team of players he felt could not get the team needed points and results to stay afloat.

Hence, Uzoho (identified as one of the weak links) was instantly demoted to where he is now to gain more experience.

I don’t think it is about Uzoho’s inability to speak Spanish.

Coach Parralo quite rightly took the view the Uzoho was not ready for Premier League football – Coach Rohr will be wise to take a leaf off Parralo’s book.

  • @Djeniko, you mean to say 17 goals conceded in 22 appearances is a good statistics for a national goalkeeper? Not sure I’m comfortable with that; that’s almost like 1 goal per match.

In any case. I get this strong feeling Rohr’s first choice goalkeeper at Russia 2018 will be Akpeyi with Uzoho deputizing. Ezenwa will be the third choice goalkeeper. Rohr initially planned it to be Uzoho-Akpeyi-Ezenwa in that order. That’s why he is dispatching special goalkeeper trainer to all 3 in preparation for June World Cup.

For me am on ‘MR ROHR’side uzoho is the best goalkeeper in spain B Division He will be a good shot stopper in Russia

  • ojo samuel 3 years ago

well…i have to comment because of what deo said…uzoho was demoted cos of language barriers…he only had two games…a clean sheet and a draw…uzoho was demoted by pepe mel himself and nt by parollo…infact coruna would have been fine with the guy…nw both deportivo coruna and fabril will both be in liga 2 nxt season as fabril are on top of their league so uzoho laugh last…i support uzoho as no one for world cup…experience is less nowadays…what are the likes of mbappe, g.jesus, l.sane,m.odegard and dembele doing at the world cup! i bet if france were to be nig, almst all their stars would rejected due to age and what is donnaruma doing im milan?

    • @Ojo, if you insist that Uzoho was demoted due to language barrier then so be it.

Also, if you say he was demoted by Pepe Mel, once more, I bow to your superior knowledge.

One thing that unites both of us is that we want out dearly beloved Super Eagles to do well at the World Cup.

For that reason, finally, I pray I will be proved wrong yet again if indeed coach Rohr does the unthinkable and makes Uzoho the number one goal keeper.
