Louis Van Gaal has admitted that Manchester City are favourites to beat his Manchester United side in Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford, which he described as “talk of the town”.
The Dutch coach said during his pre-match press conference on Friday: “I think for the fans, it’s very emotional. I live in a little village and there it is also the talk of the town. I think in Manchester it is more.”
Van Gaal claims that Manchester City are favourites for the derby although United won the fixture 4-2 last season.
“You have to ask the fans who are the favourites. It’s not so important who is the favourite.
“When you look at the facts, they are first and we are second or third. There is also the goal difference and theirs is better. They are first so they are the favourites I think.”
Van Gaal says he’s delighted to have very few injuries and therefore plenty of options for his team selection this weekend: “It’s always better that a manager can select from a lot of players. There have been times when I could not select from many, like last year, but this year is going much better.”
