Van Gaal: United Will Delay Leicester Title Party

Louis Van Gaal has promised that Manchester United will do everything possible to prevent Leicester City from being crowned English Premier champions at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Leicester will be crowned champions of England for the first time in their history if they defeat Manchester United this weekend.

In his press conference ahead of the game, Van Gaal said Leicester's rise did not surprise him.

“We cannot allow them to become champions at Old Trafford,” Van Gaal said.

“We won’t spoil their party, just postpone it a little.

“I was the first who said that they could be the champions, so for me it is not a surprise.

“I have seen it many, many times, I believe in team-building and this manager (Ranieri) has done that with this team."

Van Gaal added: “They had the circumstances to play always with the same team and didn’t play as many matches as the other teams in the Premier League, so it’s possible, always possible."

Van Gaal pointed out that Leicester emerging champions will be good advertisement for the EPL.

“I think it’s good for the Premier League and for football that not always the same teams are champions."

On the race for a top four finish, Van Gaal said: “We have to close the gap so the pressure is on us still. We have to win every game that we have to play.

“City still have to play against Arsenal, though, so one of those shall lose points."

And commenting on his future with United, Van Gaal said he remains the manager.

“I am involved, so that is not really any

“That is also logical, because I am the manager.”

  • ok so you know it is just a "delay" the party bur how are you sure it will not hold. Man Utd is winnable and the party will hold. I predict Man Utd 1-2 Leicester. Even if Man Utd draw or win(?), Tottenham can be defeated by Chelsea on Monday. Remember Dele Alli is out for the season and Chelsea at home is a very big minus for Tottenham. So Mr van Gaal, mind your speech.
