Stoffel Vandoorne has hit out at his McLaren team for making absolutely no progress in this 2018 Formula 1 campaign. The 26-year-old Belgian driver endured another miserable weekend in his home grand prix at Spa-Francorchamps as he was last in all three practices and again in qualifying, before finishing at the bottom of the pile in Sunday’s race out of those who managed to finish.
Vandoorne currently sits in 16th place in the drivers’ standings with eight points, while his vastly experienced team-mate, two-time world champion Fernando Alonso, remains in ninth place on 44 points after crashing out on the first lap on Sunday.
And, when speaking about the race afterwards, he told Autosport: “It’s difficult to get a worse weekend.
“We’ve seen the performance we have is very far away from being good. There’s not really an explanation.
“The reality is we haven’t progressed since the start of the year, we haven’t progressed at all compared to the others.”
