Vecino Wants Inter To ‘Suffer’ Against Spurs

Midfielder Matias Vecino feels Inter must learn “to suffer” as they prepare to face Tottenham in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Nerazzurri are back in Europe’s top club competition for the first time since the 2011-12 season but will not head into the group opener with much form to speak of.

Luciano Spalletti’s side have taken just four points from as many games to sit 15th in Serie A – just three spots above the relegation zone.

They will take on a Spurs side who sit sixth in the Premier League but are already six points behind table-topping Liverpool and who might see the top four as the limit of their ambitions this term.

Nevertheless, Vecino believes the north Londoners are serious opponents and wants his team-mates to roll up their sleeves and put in the hard yards in order to get the right result.

“The team has done well, particularly in the first half against Torino, but then there are moments where we don’t know how to suffer as a team,” he said. “We need to make sure all 11 are fighting for 90 minutes, if we’re solid as a group we can go beyond our means.

“English teams are very strong, we need to occupy space well to try and stop counter-attacks, they’re all very good one-on-one.”
