Verdasco Halts Edmund’s Momentum

Fernando Verdasco ended Kyle Edmund’s recent good run of form with a three-set victory in the second round of the Vienna Open. The 34-year-old Spaniard took the first set courtesy of two breaks of serve, but Edmund hit back with a break early in the second and that was enough to level up the tie.

However, Verdasco’s one break in the deciding set proved significant as he saw out a 6-4 3-6 6-3 win in two hours to set up a quarter-final against either John Isner or Gael Monfils.

Edmund moves on to Paris for the final Masters tournament of the season, looking to rediscover the form which took him on a five-game winning run and saw him seal his first ATP Tour title at the European Open.
