Spanish outfit, Villarreal are hopeful that their Nigerian import, Samuel Chukwueze will get more chance to feature for the Super Eagles in future following his debut for the three-time African champions in a friendly fixture against the Cranes of Uganda on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Chukwueze was handed a surprise call-up for Nigeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against the Bafana Bafana and the friendly encounter against Uganda Cranes after making a mark with Villarreal this season.
The former junior international made the bench in the game against Bafana Bafana but was handed his debut against the Cranes at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
Chukwueze earned huge praise for his impressive performance in the game despite featuring in only the first half of the game.
Villareal posted a short message on their official twitter handle with Chukwueze picture underneath it celebrating the young forward’s official debut for the Super Eagles.
“Hopefully, that’s the first of many times we’ll be seeing you in the green shirt of your country Samu! 🇳🇬👏💪,” Villarreal tweeted.
The 19-year-old who was part of Nigeria’s U-17 side that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile in 2015 joined Villarreal in 2017 and made 11 league appearances for second team scoring once.
He made his first-team debut for Villarreal in September 2018, replacing Nicola Sansone in a 2–2 home draw against Scottish side, Glasgow Rangers,in an UEFA Europa League clash.
The youngster made his league debut this month in the Yellow Submarines’ 1-1 home draw against Levante.
He scored his first LaLiga goal in the club’s 2-2 away draw against Rayo Vallecano before the international break.
