Neil Warnock has backed forward Kenneth Zohore to successfully lead Cardiff’s line throughout the Premier League season. The Bluebirds have picked up one point from their opening two matches since returning to the top flight, but they are the only side in the division yet to find the back of the net and they have only managed to muster two shots on target.
Former Denmark under-21 international Zohore led the Cardiff line during Saturday’s goalless draw with Newcastle and he received some criticism for his failure to take the few chances that came his way.
Zohore has not been prolific during his time in Wales as he netted nine goals in 36 Championship appearances last season, but Warnock is confident the 24-year can step up to the plate in the Premier League and score the goals that Cardiff will need to survive in the division.
“We need Ken Zohore to function and get in that 10 to 15 goal bracket,” Warnock was quoted as saying by Wales Online.
“As everyone says strikers in that mould are few and far between, especially when you come up. I think Fulham spent £25million on Mitrovic and you can see why as he’s going to score 15 to 20 goals. And we’re hoping Zohore will do that.”
