Watford boss Javi Gracia says they are likely to appeal the decision to send off Christian Kabasele in Wednesday’s loss to Tottenham.
The Hornets have started 2018-19 positively, losing just one of their six outings in the Premier League, but Gracia made 10 changes to his side for Wednesday’s third round Carabao Cup clash with Spurs.
Isaac Success put Watford ahead early in the second half before the match – played at Stadium MK – ended in dramatic fashion.
Dele Alli and Erik Lamela netted in the final five minutes before Etienne Capoue put Watford back on level terms in the final moments.
Spurs went on to win the penalty shootout 4-2 but Gracia was left frustrated after Kabasele was sent off in the build up to Alli’s goal.
Kabasele was deemed to have hauled Alli down in the box and subsequently had his night ended prematurely as the Spurs star stepped up to dispatch from the spot.
Gracia was unable to get his head around Lee Mason’s thought process and has hinted they could appeal the decision.
“I am very proud of my players. I think we played very well and I would like to respect the referee’s decision and to support them because I know it is not easy,” Gracia said.
“But it is hard to accept, first the penalty and then the red card I don’t understand that decision. I don’t understand why the referee showed the red card. I think we will appeal it.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
