Former F1 driver Mark Webber admits he is worried about Daniel Ricciardo’s decision to switch to Renault from Red Bull.
Midway through last season, the 29-year-old Australian stunned the world of Formula One by announcing he would be leaving Red Bull to join mid-table Renault.
He even had recorded social media videos for Christian Horner’s team before a last-minute change of mind saw him switch to Renault instead.
He won two races last season in China and Monaco but inconsistency with his own performance and reliability with the car saw him finish a distant sixth in the driver’s championship.
However, his chances of a tilt at the championship in 2019 look very remote with Renault and Webber admits he is concerned about how his compatriot’s career will now pan out.
“I think we’re all a bit concerned about it,” Webber said. “The people in the industry would have liked him to [stay]. I’m still reasonably close to Red Bull.
“I’ve had the odd dinner with Daniel. He knows where my position is on this – it hasn’t changed. “I would have loved him to stay at Red Bull.”Copyright © 2020 Completesports.com All rights reserved.
