Arsene Wenger has played down Arsenal’s second place finish in the final standings in the English Premier League.
Arsenal defeated relegated Aston Villa 4-0 on Sunday at the Emirates to topple Tottenham Hotspur to second place and finish 10 points behind champions Leicester City.
An Olivier Giroud hat-trick and a Mark Bunn own goal sealed the win for Arsenal.
Reacting to the win, Wenger stated that Arsenal’s target has always been to finish top of the league table.
“We finished second in the league but we wanted to be first. We want to win more,” Wenger said.
Wenger dismissed talk about Spurs finishing above Arsenal.
“Many years it looked like that,” he said.
He went on to thank the duo of Tomaz Rosicky and Mikel Arteta who will be leaving the club.
“We lose Rosicky and Arteta- two exceptional players and influences in the dressing room. I want to thank them.”
